Climbing site to be featured on BBC show

A BBC TV presenter will be seen attached to a climbing rope this Sunday (November 28th) as part of a feature on the Roaches estate in the Peak District

The beauty spot in Staffordshire is popular with climbers and walkers and the Country File Show will see Matt Bacon being taken up the Central South Route by British Mountaineering Club (BMC) volunteer Andi Turner.

Country File will focus on efforts by the park authority to pass the management of the site on, the BMC noted, something which may interest those keen to don their climbing boots and head for the Roaches.

In June, national park bosses said they were looking for someone to either enter a management partnership or buy the site outright, with the strict proviso that public access would be maintained.

"We are putting guarantees in place as part of any agreement to ensure the Roaches remains a highly popular area for climbing and walking," lead member for asset management Roger Clarke commented at the time.
