Climbing rope users will be hearing about the transformation of a quarry in Lancashire at a meeting being held near Bolton tonight (September 26th).

In its latest area newsletter emailed to members, the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) revealed the evening at the Belmont Bull pub will include details on how Hoghton Quarry has been changed in a "remarkable way".

The email stated: "Once, this place was like the deeper reaches of the Amazonian Jungle and now? It's like Piccadilly Circus."

New ascent routes, clean rock and the addition of new bolts to help climbers are among the developments mentioned.

The BMC has also unveiled details of autumn lectures that climbers based in the north of England may enjoy.

Expert climber Johnny Dawes will be giving masterclasses at the Harrogate Climbing Centre on September 30th and the Manchester Climbing Wall on October 13th.

Andy Kirkpatrick and Tim Ralph of Seven Summits fame will also be lecturing.
