Christmas warming over bothy

People who are planning to stay at a bothy in Snowdonia over the coming days might need to make sure they have their winter jackets to hand.

According to the Mountain Bothies Association (MBA), most of the accommodation at Penrhos Isaf is open but cannot be heated.

This, it said, is because the stove is out of action due to a blockage in the chimney flue.

According to the MBA, it could take several days at least to rectify the problem.

As a result, anyone who has arranged to stay at Penrhos Isaf while the Christmas and new year celebrations are in full swing might need to look at other ways of staying warm, such as wrapping up in winter jackets.

This comes after the MBA warned that stormy weather has damaged the roof on the north room at Culra Bothy in the Scottish Highlands, rendering it unusable.

Therefore, demand for other spaces could be particularly high over the holiday season.
