Julia Bradbury has been confirmed as the president of the Ramblers, after the body elected her to head up the organisation.
At a special conference marking 75 years since the organisation was formed, the TV presenter was cheered by delegates as she vowed to "put the passion into walking".
She said: "The country is stuffed with beautiful walks and a 130,000 mile footpath network - I want everyone to get out there and enjoy it!"
The walking fraternity is too socially narrow and people from all backgrounds should be enjoying the activity, Ms Bradbury said.
Those who may not have taken up walking before might wish to find their nearest Go Outdoors store and get some walking shoes
and a trekking pole
before heading into the great outdoors.
In a recent interview with the Northern Rail magazine, Julia Bradbury explained that she first grew to love walking in the country when she went walking with her father in the Peak District at the age of six.
