Rock band U2 has had to cancel its planned appearance at next month's Glastonburyfestival
due to the back injury suffered by frontman Bono, which has led to him having surgery in recent days, the festival
site has confirmed.
The group has had to postpone its world tour due to the mishap, which happened during rehearsals.
Bono told Glastonbury
founder Michael Eavis he was "heartbroken" at not being able to come and said he had even written a song especially for the occasion.
Mr Eavis commented: "At this point, we have no comment to make about possible replacements for U2's Friday night slot."
Those disappointed at the news may still have a great time at Glastonbury
, particularly if they invest in some camping accessories
to make sure they are cosy while staying in tents
While Bono and co may be missing, those visiting the festival
have been informed this week of the films that will be showing at the Pilton Palais cinema during the event.
These include Avatar, District 9, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Kick-Ass.
