Montane Terra Pants are lightweight, hard-wearing and weather resistant mountain trousers ideal for adventurers out in all seasons wanting supreme weather protection.
Suitable for a wide range of outdoor sports, the Terra keeps on going through all weathers. TACTEL® fabrics together with a TEFLON® surface finish allow you to scrape, scratch and abuse your trousers on the mountain side.
The TACTEL® Nylon outer provides a cotton-like feel, which doesn’t rustle or crackle, but retains the durability and fast drying qualities of Nylon. The tight weave of TACTEL® together with a TEFLON® surface finish helps water to bead up and run off the fabric face.
The Terra has an active cut with a high lift crotch and pre-bent knees for a large range of movement. The fabrics are protective against UPF40+ and the pants have mesh pockets to stash energy gels, snacks and money for a quick beverage.
Comfortable, lightweight, highly technical, and designed specifically for the rigours of trekking and scrambling.

tuff as old boots, 02 January 2012
By robaurdu (south wales)
I have had a couple of pairs of these for the last few years, no sign of wear, and still look good. I have worn one pair consistantly for a month in Nepal.....these were my main trousers and I basicially lived in them. They were comfortable in all conditdions, lowland jungle, mountain passes, glaciers etc. On cooler days I backed them up with long johns, but this was rare, even above the snow line, where I found them generally warm enough. On summit days, I used a pair oh insulated trousers on top, which was a good combination, as on the decent when it got warm I was able to regulate my temperature. After a month of serious abuse, they did look like they had been to hell and back, but once washed were as good as new ! A bit of tx 10 also helps with the water proofing. All in all a good, tuff trouser which will be good anywhere, even the pub.

Montane Terra Pants, 01 February 2010

Montane Terra Pants. Used for over 5 years.
The Montane Terra Pants are a mid-weight technical hiking and biking trouser that are best used in cool, damp and windy conditions. The mixture of tactel and cordura fabrics make them very wind resistant and reasonably water resistant if you ‘reproof’ them every now and again. They are also quite breathable and the thigh vents do help you cool down when biking or climbing up hills, although bigger vents could be more effective. The pockets are useful, with zip closures and a small internal zipped pouch inside the right pocket which can be used for keys etc. Having adjustable ankle closures is great if you want to use these trousers for mountain biking. The fit and the fabric is also very comfortable and not too baggy but still offers ease of movement.
My main gripe is with the use of the cordura patches which do offer some harder wearing zones but also allow water in more easily than the tactel areas. The old green and black design has often been slated as looking a bit too continental but I guess this is down to personal preference.
So these trousers do offer reasonable weather protection but like a lot of trousers that are neither hard shell or non waterproof they are a compromise between being water resistant, up to a point, and quite breathable. Despite all this mine do still get used a lot and continue to show little sign of wear and tear so although they are relatively expensive they are good value for money.
