The definitive single-layer softshell for extreme conditions.
Montane's Extreme Smock
is a modern outdoor classic, tested in hostile conditions for 20 years by mountaineers and climbers on Arctic and Antarctic expeditions.
A single-layer technical mountain softshell smock, it's made using windproof, water repellent, fast drying and breathable PERTEX® Classic 6, with a wicking DRYACTIV 3000 deep pile lining and reinforced tough POLARDRI® elbows that protect against wear and rock abrasion.
It's designed to be comfortable and unrestrictive while keeping you covered - articulated arms let you stretch, microfleece inner sleeves and pockets keep you cosy, and the wire-peaked hood can be adjusted three ways.
Plentiful roomy pockets (positioned clear from your rucksack/harness), easy adjustments where you need them and comfortable detailing make the Montane Extreme Smock your cold-weather friend.
- Zoned DRYACTIV 3000 deep pile lining wicks sweat, dries fast and retains warmth even when wet
- Reinforced tough POLARDRI® elbows to protect against rock abrasion
- Articulated arms prevent pile constructing over elbows and biceps
- Removable hood with three point adjustment and wired peak
- Soft fleece beardguard at inner collar
- Large front pocket, 'hook and loop' sleeve pocket
- D-ring at forearm lets you attach glove or mitt cord
- Storm baffled ½ length front YKK zip, ( + 2 way YKK zipped side vents with storm flap)
- hook and loop adjustable cuffs and hem with grab tabs - easy with gloved hands, stop snow getting in
- Removable crotch strap prevents the hem riding up if you're reaching high

Montane extreme smock, 03 December 2015
Got this smock a few months ago, overall I have been quite happy with it. It is exceptionally warm and the added pile and the wire peak in the hood makes it really warm. Only down side is in the slightest of rain the front pocket gets soaked especially at the bottom end of the pocket.

I bought this smock last winter for plain clothes skydiving, and it is absolutely perfect.
It has performed well in temperatures as low as -8C with brief exposure to 100mph+ winds, has a removable hood, and the crotch strap is literally a life saver as it stops the smock riding up and potentially obstructing reserve handles.
Will definitely be in my kit bag this winter.

This smock (and jacket version) offers great winter protection and reliability at a very reasonable price for me my first choice when out and about in the British winter months.
Amazing bit of kit!!, 11 November 2014

Montane have done a great job of this. I have spent the day on snowdon and the smock performed really well.
The weather was 10 degrees with a 15mph wind and raining and the smock was faultless. I had no base layer on just the smock against my skin. I had the vents open all day and I remained warm and sweat was wicked away from my skin keeping me dry.
At the top I used the hood as the wind had gotten stronger and more gusty. I have very short hair and I was warm and the neck strap was easy to use and stopped the hood from blowing back.
This smock is a true investment. There is truly no need for a base layers, mid layer or hard shell.
This is all in one.
If you was to stop for long periods of time then you may need a jacket to go on top but if your mostly moving then I wouldn't bother.
I do hope this review helps
