Good - but will be even better after a few modifications., 05 September 2012
By MarkR (Thornaby)
We love our tent, but when it rains the front door has to be closed down and we can see nothing outside. Now we have a porch with windows and we can keep the main door up. Fabulous. Porch fabric is just as waterproof as main tent and windows were left permanently uncovered. I love the broad straps at the front and the metal poles. It feels more substantial.

Downside is how it joins to the tent. Not nearly enough overlap to keep it secure. After one massive downpour in Newquay came back to find the top of the porch drooping inside the tent with a big puddle of water suspended overhead in it (told you the fabric was water proof) and a very wet carpet. The front door was securely closed everytime we left for the day after that.
Modification 1 There will be lots of velcro securing this vital part.

The groundsheet that came with it was a liability as water would pond on it everytime it rained due to the porch bottom not reaching the ground allowing the rain to drip onto the groundsheet. The following week in Chertsey we left the groundsheet in the car as the ground was dry and hard and the grass lush. Much better.
Modification 2 - we have a large tarpaulin that we can arrange to have velcro'ed onto the bottom of the porch to make it completely water, slug and bird tight.

All in all, so glad we bought it.

Mojave porch, 24 August 2012
By sbunn (cleveland)
Purchased this porch to give us extra room for storage and cooking and it was OK but the gaps around it were quite big and we were woken a couple of times by birds that had found their way in and got trapped also signs of mice. So OK for space but be aware of poor fitting

Fiddly but did the job, 21 August 2012
By HP (Cheshire)
We purchased the porch primarily for use with cooking so that we were able to make food under cover from wind and rain but with enough ventilation to be safe. For this purpose it is great. The porch has quite a considerable gap around the bottom (benefit for cooking but not great for keeping weather/animals out!) and is more than big enough (especially with the door completely open) to be able to cook and sit inside.

It stood up to some ferocious winds whilst we were away, although we did have to reattach the fastenings to the main tent 3/4 times to prevent it flying off - whether that is down to the TERRIBLE instructions or our skills I'm not sure but the wind was very strong and I expect I would have done this with any extension.

I can't review how rain proof it would be in a downpour but I imagine it would be fine, probably letting in a few leaks but as an extension I'm not sure that is really a massive issue.

Overall:
Pros - excellent extra space as a go between outside and main tent, great for cooking and stood up to v strong wind.

Cons - Instructions were pointless and it was a bit of a nightmare to put up with the two people, quite a large gap around the base and the fitting could have been better.

Knowing all of the above, I would still buy this product because of how valuable it was as a space for cooking and storing dirty/wet things before going into the main tent.
