In my never ending search for the ultimate racing spoon, never before has there been such a strong contender. My spork has been with me for many years, in fact it never leaves my side. I have it hanging from my rear view mirror in my car and when ever i feel i may need it, it follows me. On one occasion, upon realizing my spork was still hanging from my mirror, i immediately hid my rucksack in a bush, ran halfway down kinder scout to retrieve it, then ran back to join my group, collecting my bag on the way. Sized almost perfectly to enable rapid theft of large amounts of friends food both from plates and mess tins, the light weight titanium alloy silently slices through the air before others are aware that an assault on there hard earned grub is underway. other outdoor cooking implements simply cannot compare to the stealth characteristics of my spork and upon my hearing air disturbed by attacking cookware the 4 prongs lend them selves wonderfully to a defensiveness role acting as a strong deterrent to any attempts on my snap. In the years we have spent together i have only ever cleaned my spork by licking it and wiping it on my (normally muddy) trousers, in that time i haven't died once. upon my return from a recent camping trip whilst de-gunking my kit i found i had misplaced my ipod and my spork, although my ipod carries material value. the memories created by the time i shared with my spork are irreplaceable and i miss my spork considerably more.
i have had sun burn, heat stroke, frost bite and hypothermia, been shot at had my face dragged over white water river beds, been stung, slashed, and smashed and every step of the way my spork has been by my side giving me what i need to push on, to make it to the summit, the eddy, the beach, the pub, and even A&E
some times i even think i see it nestled in the cutlery draw at home, but inevitably it just turns out to be a spoon...or a fork.
it doesn't matter what you do maybe your a survival instructor maybe your a traffic womble every one needs a spork in there life.
