Highland Gold Mine Revival Proposed

Those climbing the Munros of the southern highlands may be interested to note there is gold in those hills, after a company made a bid to restart an old mine beneath Ben Lui.
Scotgold Resources, which owns the only working gold mine in Scotland near Tynrum, is seeking new investment to restart work at an old mine at Cononish - where silver can also be found - as well as other deposits nearby.
Those looking to carry on bringing a walking pole and an Ordnance Survey map to walk in the area may note that the location is inside the boundaries of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
As a result, considerations like impact on the landscape and access to the mountains for walkers may play a major role in the decision making process over the application to resume work at Cononish.
Ben Lui stands at 3,707 ft and Munro baggers can often combine an ascent with neighbouring Beinn a' Chleibh, which stands at 3,005 ft.
