Hi Gear's popular large tunnel tent, perfect for relaxed camping holidays with all the family.
The Hi Gear Kalahari 8 Elite
is a spacious and stable tunnel-style tent with two large partitionable bedrooms in a face-to-face layout, roomy enough for you, your family and all your gear.
Pre-attached high-visibility guylines, reduced pole sleeves, and sewn-in polyethylene groundsheet make pitching the tent quick and easy.
The bedrooms comfortably sleep four at each end of the tent, in 2+2 inners with breathable polyester walls. Bedrooms can also be removed, to give you extra storage space, or room for dirty gear.
The large living space has two large windows and hanging storage pockets to help keep it tidy, organised and liveable. Multiple vents along the roof help air flow throughout the tent.
The sewn-in groundsheet combined with the fire-retardant polyester flysheet (with 4000mm hydrostatic head) give you a fully sealed and ventilated internal environment, so you'll be completely protected from draughts and sustained downpours. The two doors can be propped and extended out to use for extra shelter from rain or stretching the space out for more room if it's sunny.
Other useful features include the water-repellent zips and an electrical cable access point.
There are two versions of this tent available ('EMERALD' and 'EMERALD GREEN'), the EMERALD version has a thinner grey stripe along the lower edge, to match the new EMERALD version of the porch.

I bought the Kalahari Elite 8 after doing days of research online into which tent to buy. I couldnt afford an inflatable tent and didnt want to get anything too cheap either.
This tent is MASSIVE! Over 20ft long and 10ft wide! I'm 6ft and can easily stand up in every part of the tent with the exception of the back of the sleeping pods where I have to bend just a little. Despite that it can easily be erected by 2 people and I think at a pinch possibly by a single person (though I havent tried that!). Pitching time including guys is around 30ish minutes for 2 people.
The first time I used it I went away to Aberystwyth for a week. It rained every day, was very windy but extremely hot and muggy. Like all tents it is uncomfortable in heat but you can open all the vents and doors to help.
The tent did not let in a single drop of water and stood up to both the torrential rain and high winds without any issues at all. I really cant fault it for that.
Second time I used it - again torrential rain and high winds and again no problem at all!
The tent is spacious and comfortable though I wouldnt want to put 8 people in there. For 2 or 4 though loads of room!
Ok nothing is perfect and this tent has a couple of minor but annoying issues.
The first is that there is only 1 cable entry point so you have to make sure the tent is the right way around. Not as easy as you think as it is difficult to find the entry when the tent is down and laid out, and of course you have to turn it around if it's facing the wrong way. This is especially an issue if like me you have the porch as you'll probably want to ensure there is electricity in the porch.
Secondly (and related) is that the very useful lantern mounting point on the ceiling has a fantastic cable management system - but it only goes down one side of the tent - towards the cable entry point. There are many reasons why the electrical supply wont necessarily be right there so it would be really useful if it had the velcro tabs going both ways.
That aside, cant really fault the tent at all and I'm looking forward to getting loads of use out of it next year.

Bought the higear kalahari 8 tent to upgrade on space as a family of 5 plus a dog. Easy to put up but lots of pegs to go in but it is an 8 man tent so that's to be expected. Handy video showing how to put it up. Bedrooms wide enough and plenty of living space too. We used a bedroom to store our stuff in. Handy pockets in the bedrooms and in the living space. The Windows give the option of being open with the bug net still in place. Loads of ventilation. Easy to put down and the bags give enough space to repackage the tent back again. It rained heavily and we didn't get wet. Really happy with this tent, just saving to buy the carpet and footprint now! An awning would have been good for covered over cooking, however there is a porch you could purchase separately too.

This was a family upgrade and an excellent choice. Easily pitched and was stable and secure during gusty winds. Dry despite heavy rains. Lots of space and pockets for everything. Porch is ideal kitchen area. It doesn't seal against the tent but is a good close fit. Room inside for movement and relaxation in the wet. Very pleased with the whole package.

Bought this tent in June. Put it up in the garden with no problems. The second time we put it up was on holiday in Cornwall and one of the tent poles came apart lengthwise leaving me with a half inch glass fibre splinter in my finger. Repaired with some gaffer tape. Took it down without any problems other than it was raining. Back home the following day put it up in the garden to dry and a second pole split.
I rang the store in Canterbury where I bought it and was told they would replace them. However when I took them back I was told they would repair them. On collection there was the question of payment. I am grateful to the Manager who didn't charge me but he did point out that all their tent poles are only covered by a 30 day guarantee, which they don't tell but is in the small print of your guarantee. You therefore could be faced with buying a tent not putting it up straight away then when you do have a pole go and you will have to pay for it to be repaired despite never having used it before.
As customer feedback I did say that if poles go this easily then it must be down to poor quality and workmanship, to which the response is that it is a basic family tent. I pointed had I been told this and about the poles then I may have considered buying something else.
One other point is regarding the awning. I suggest you practice a few times putting it up before using it for real, Got the hang of it in the end but don't know why it has to be so fiddly. Also why no ground sheet?
