Hi Gear Explorer Sleeping Mat (5cms),, 13 August 2011
By SwimCoach (Bath)
This was a purchase to tempt my wife away from her inflatable air bed for our camping trips. Despite the good quality I didn't succeed for two reasons; she kept sliding off the shiny surface (there was no friction with a sleeping bag) and it wasn't wide enough for her 5ft 6in frame. That said, our children have taken it on Scout and Cub camps and found it fine ...... when wrapped in a blanket to prevent the slide. Definetly for the younger campers.

Hi Gear Explorer Sleeping Mat (5cms), 24 June 2011

This mat is great quality and a cracking price for the product. I have used a range of mat's but this product provides the assurance of a great nights comfort. It wraps neatly and is highly portable as it is so light. We returned to the Priests Hole Cave recently for a spot of wild camping and I was delighted with the quality of the sleep I experienced thanks to the Hi Gear 5cm. On our visit to the same destination last year using a traditional mat, it was torture! An amazing comparrison.

After going through a couple of double airbeds and a couple of single airbeds, my partner and I were at a loss what to do when camping.

Air beds simply kept puncturing and taking up lots of room in the bedroom of the tent meaning we were squished up together.

We tried camping mats, which were OK but after a couple of nights we were very achey. So we decided to spend a bit more and go for an inflatable mat. And we are very glad we did. They roll down to a decent size to pack away and are easy to inflate. No need to worry about remembering to pack a pump, just undo the valve and away you go! Just blow in some additional air if needed.

These beds are great, they're comfortable, hardwearing and not too expensive. The best camping accessory we have!
