Continue To GO Outdoors

Welcome to the GO Outdoors awards 2016 where we look to celebrate the best of the best in the outdoor world over the past year.

It’s time for the annual GO Outdoors awards where we team up with GO customers to pick out and recognise fantastic outdoor brands, bloggers and products from the year. The award categories can be found below and public voting is now open!

Best Outdoor Brand of 2015 (Voted for by GO Outdoors Customers)

Berghaus have broke the 3 year hold that Rab had on this category and took the top spot with 13.97% of the vote. Berghaus have been a staple in the GO Outdoors range for years and are always one of the most popular brands on offer. 2015 saw the introduction of the exclusive Explorer Active GORE-TEX approach shoes which have proven wildly popular with customers. As well as the exclusives we’ve also seen a lot of interest in Begrhaus’ HydroDown and HydroLoft technologies, along with the Asgard jacket which combines the two perfectly.

2nd: Rab / 3rd: Craghoppers

Best Outdoor Blog (Public Vote – Wins £200 in GO Outdoors Vouchers)

Stuart Hodgson -

The blog vote was incredibly close for much of the voting period, with the leader changing numerous times. Stuart Hodgson claims the crown with fantastic support for his blog. Stuart’s blog is a personal blog to celebrate his love of walking and his love of landscape photography. His personable writing style, set with his stunning photographs of his walks will no doubt inspire many to start noting down their own travels. Congratulations, Stuart the winner with 24.53% of the vote.

2nd: Outdoor Chics / 3rd: Coastal Walker

Camping Product of the Year

OEX Cougar II Backpacking Tent

This category caused some real debate among the team, purely because there are so many different types of camping. There are some incredibly popular tents in the range, long standing names in the industry which could easily be picked, but we’ve picked a product from the OEX maiden range. The Cougar II is a great bit of kit for the price, the design is robust and the title of ‘2 man tent’ is actually realistic (many customers have said they’ve fit two and a dog, you could probably fit 3 at a squeeze). The Cougar II has proven to be a popular piece in the OEX range and is rapidly becoming a favourite among wild campers and those taking part in school expeditions.

Walking Product of the Year

Osprey Atmos/Aura Rucksacks

When we look at great walking products we’re looking for functionality, technology and comfort. Our walking product of the year is the Osprey Atmos/Aura rucksack. This pack comes stacked with the usual great features you’d expect from an Osprey pack, but has been designed with new fitting technology to make this rucksack genuinely one of the most comfortable packs you will have on your back. The Atmos has already been named best in test by Trail Magazine, and voted equipment product of the year by TGO magazine, and we couldn’t agree more. If you’re looking for a functional, incredibly comfortable rucksack – look no further.

Cycling Product of the Year

Calibre Bossnut Full Suspension Mountain Bike

The Bossnut has been a real success story in 2015, so much so that it may seem almost mythical due to the fact it sells out very quickly when it comes into stock. The popularity of this bike isn’t by accident, it’s been receiving rave reviews from the cycling world. The Bossnut scores 5/5 from MBR magazine, along with being voted as ‘Bike of the Year’ from MBR Magazine. High praise indeed! We’re looking forward to having more Bossnuts available in 2016.

Clothing Product of the Year

Rab Nimbus Insulated Jacket

We had a chance to try the Nimbus on at our staff product launch, and you could tell with how excited Rab were to talk about this piece that it was going to be something special. The Nimbus is a synthetic insulated jacket, meaning it’s warm enough for winter but won’t clump like down can when wet. The insulation inside the Nimbus is known as ‘Cirrus Powered by 3M’ which Rab say is as near to down insulation as a synthetic has gotten. 5 star reviews from GO customers on site say it all, anybody who owns the Nimbus, seems to love it.

Climbing Product of the Year

Mammut Galaxy Dry Climbing Rope

Climbing rope is one of the most important pieces of kit for any climber. The Galaxy dry rope from Mammut has made waves in 2015, because it’s ideal for most types of climber. The rope has had its core and outer coated in Mammut’s COATINGfinish™ which aims to prevent the rope from freezing in lower temperatures. This coating also makes the rope abrasion resistant, so should improve the lifespan. The durability of the rope has been recognised already this year by Climb magazine in their gear of the year review.

Outdoor Gadget of the Year

Garmin eTrex 25 Touch GPS

Gadgets are an adventurers best friend. Year after year many people are ditching the unreliable battery life of their smartphone for a handheld purpose built GPS for walking, cycling, running etc. A hobby that is really on the rise right now is geocaching, and the eTrex Touch makes it incredibly easy to get the whole family involved. The unit comes with 250,000 preloaded caches which is more than enough for any budding geocacher. As well as preloaded caches, you can also search Garmin connect for downloadable routes from fellow users to add to your unit. All in all we think it’s a really good piece for getting you, or your family into the outdoors with plenty of ideas for adventure.
