The Garmin fenix 3 GPS Sport Watch is a true all rounder with an athletic style, supporting performance sports like running, cycling, swimming, trail running, indoor training, cross country skiing as well as triathlon and recreational activities such as hiking, climbing and downhill skiing.

Built to endure the roughest conditions, this tough watch has a scratch-protected domed crystal face and an ultra-strong glass-fibre housing, with stainless steel buttons for extra durability. It is powered by GPS and GLONASS via the new steel EXO antenna and has a sunlight-readable high-resolution colour Chroma display, with LED backlight, which lets you access your data in any light condition.

It measures your performance on the go, tracks activities for sharing and then navigates you back home at the end of an adventure. Being water rated to 10 ATM (100 metres), with a battery life of up to 50 hours in UltraTrac mode and up to 6 weeks in watch mode (dependant on settings) , you also benefit from basic watch functions which include alarms, tones, vibration alerts, timers, and a calendar. Using the Connect IQ platform, you can even personalise your fenix 3 watch, with ConnectIQ apps, widgets, data fields and unique watch faces.

Advanced Fitness Metrics:
The VO2 max estimator crunches data, including your running speed, bpm and heart rate variability to estimate the maximum volume of oxygen you can consume per minute. Track changes to your VO2 max to see your fitness gains and to compare with your peers. Other fitness metrics include recovery advisor with a recovery timer and recovery check, plus a Race Predictor, which estimates your ideal finish time based on your current VO2 max number.

Running Dynamics:
The fenix 3 reports multiple advanced running metrics and, when used with the HRM-Run monitor, it will report your cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time. These metrics show your running efficiency – something you can use to improve your performance over time.

Run Vertical
A new dedicated trail running profile features an automatic switch for core data presentation during flat running vs. climbing sequences, and more climbing-relevant data such as ascent performance split for laps and vertical speed. For Ultra Trail runners the fenix 3 secures additional battery life in UltraTrac mode, with the option to run the watch through an external power supply for the big challenge.

Swim Profile
The fenix 3 captures detailed swim metrics, including distance, pace, stroke count, stroke rate and SWOLF score. You can easily log swim drills and kick sets at the pool, while there are various alerts available - from holding your pace and keeping tabs on your distance, to calories burnt and stroke rate achieved.

Cycle Mode
Providing advanced training capabilities to your cycling workouts, the fenix 3 is compatible with sensors such as speed, cadence and heart rate. It will display power metrics when paired with ANT+ power meters, including the Vector line of single- and dual-sensing pedal options and, when training with a HRM and power meter, it can derive your VO2 max estimate for cycling to help monitor changes in your fitness.

Ski-board Mode
Measuring speed, distance, vertical drop and an automatic run counter (with Auto Pause for the lift line), you can also use the fenix 3 as a glove-friendly remote (via ANT+™) to operate your Garmin VIRB® /VIRB Elite action camera.

Navigate Your Way
The fenix 3 records a GPS track log which creates a “bread crumb trail” as you move, allows you to create and follow up to 50 routes, and mark up to 1,000 locations on the way. You can easily plan trips and share adventures with friends and family by using Garmin’s free planning tool BaseCamp™ on your computer.

Altimeter, Barometer and Compass:
ABC sensors provide relevant real-time information - the built-in altimeter accurately monitors ascent and descent, while the barometer can be used to predict weather changes by showing short-term trends in air pressure. The 3-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing whether you’re moving or not. The ABC sensors auto-calibrate using its GPS receiver to provide the most accurate information possible, and you can also pair your fenix 3 with a Garmin tempe external sensor (sold separately) for accurate temperature readings.

Stay Connected
Smart Notifications let you receive emails, texts and alerts directly on your watch, even when on the trail. It can receive a wireless signal from your smart phone or through a WiFi hotspot via Garmin Connect™,  displaying the full text on its own screen whenever you’re ready to read it.
You can also keep your family and friends informed about your whereabouts through LiveTrack (when paired with your smart phone).

What's in the box:
fenix 3 grey watch with black band
USB charging/data cable
AC adapter
Product documentation

The HRM-Run™, paired with the fenix 3, monitors your heart rate to give real-time feedback about your running form.
It has an accelerometer that measures torso movement to calculate 3 running metrics:
1.Cadence — the total number of steps per minute
2.Vertical oscillation — the bounce in your running motion (measured in centimeters)
3.Ground contact time (measured in milliseconds)

Fenix 3 - significantly better, 20 June 2016
By Rambo (Stirling)
I have a Fenix 1 which is a good GPS watch but the 3 takes things to a new level. easier to operate, easier to tailor and fun too. I've also ditched my activity band as the 3 covers steps and sleep as well.

Outstanding watch, 16 July 2015
By Snowmangeoff (Peterborough)
The features on this watch are amazing. If you run, swim cycle or just walk this watch does it all. The screen is clear and easy to read in the sunlight. A good feature is the Garmin iq website where you can download apps onto the watch like different watch faces. The watch is comfy to wear.

Phenomenal all round watch.. Beats Apple Watch, 12 July 2015
By Dodsy1974 (Shropshire)
Ignore the review about not being able to read in sunlight. This watch has one of the clearest sunlight readable screens I have ever used. Display us switchable in any activity or plain watch between negative or positive background. It really is a do everything outdoors watch with the added functionality of seeing messages and notifications from your smartphone. If you are after an activity tracker/hrm/smart watch then choose this over the apple watch. The run stats are superb as are the infinitely customisable displays for activities. The HRM-Run strap gives new stats for cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time. Meaning you can coach your own running stride. Along with a metronome to improve cadence turnover.

exceeded expectations, 08 April 2015
By andy (Coventry)
Bad point: display is great outdoors and in bright light, but marginal in dim light (I sometimes need to put backlight on in circumstances where a normal digital watch would be OK)
Good points: battery life, buttons, emails from phone, OSGB grid reference when walking, more stats running than I know what to do with, more or less everything else...

Awesome Fenix 3, 30 March 2015
By GazMon (Lowton)
Been waiting for a great looking training watch that can help improve my run/bike/swim times and this is definitely the watch for me.
Unbelievable amount of data available, super fast gps connection and looks superb.
Lots of options for different watch faces, the black background screen is a little dark, so just changed to a white background. Easy to see bright screen then, even in poor light.
Easily the best watch I have ever owned. Went for my first run, super accurate gps, loads of data easily read on screen and at the the end it gives you your fastest mile, average speed etc.
Still loads of stuff to discover, but extremely impressed so far.
