An over-sized monster of a bike that goes against the grain and proves that fat is fast!

Calibre's Dune is a great value fat bike designed specifically to tackle UK trails, while still being a great choice for shredding across snow and sand.

We've taken standard fat bike geometry and tweaked it for faster, more aggressive riding in normal UK trail conditions. The Dune frame realises this geometry with an incredibly light, strong aluminium frame with huge clearance for big tyres and lots of mud. Hand-welded throughout, it's an incredible frame that makes the most of fat tyres' natural suspension and deserves to be ridden hard.

Weight is an issue since the wheels are so much wider than normal, which is why we use lightweight aluminium rims with cutout sections for even lower weight. Seated on these rims are a pair of Kenda Juggernaught Pro tyres*, one of the most popular fat tyres on the market and lighter than those used on the original incarnations of this stunning bike.

Making these wheels spin is a 2x8 Shimano drivetrain with a wide-ranging 11-34T cassette providing a huge spread of gears for varied terrain and conditions. Shifting is smooth and responsive across the entire 16 gear range thanks to advanced technology trickled down through the years from Shimano's pro-level XTR system. Powerful Tektro HD-M290 mechanical disc brakes take care of stopping power with 160mm rotors front and back.

The Calibre Dune slashes the pricetag while maintaining an incredible specification, giving you the perfect opportunity to get into fat biking and add another bike to your stable without breaking the bank.

*Please note the images are for illustrative purposes only, the Dune Bike comes with Kenda Juggernaught Pro tyres and NOT Schwalbe Jumbo Jims as shown.

History of the Fat bike

Fat bikes have taken the mountain biking community by storm over the last few years. Fat bikes are mountain bikes with huge 4-5" tyres run at very low pressures. They were originally designed for use in snow and sand where the big, low pressure tyres float on the surface, letting you ride in conditions when your tyres would normally sink and get stuck.

Now people have realised that the big tyres provide a sort of natural suspension and that they are great fun to ride on normal trails in normal conditions too. The big wheels simply soak up bumps and roll over obstacles that might upset normal mountain bike wheels. The low pressure tyres also mean a unique, fluid riding style that is incredibly fun and unlike any other kind of mountain biking!

That's the kind of riding that the Dune has been designed for.

what a bike for the price, 24 September 2016
By WallyG (west yorkshire)
love this bike. value for money is just to good to be true.
rides amazingly.
had on one 45650b and this bike is lighter and have gone down stuff I wouldn't have done on the 45650b that cost 3 time as mush. I am faster up and down hills.
I have now upgraded the running gear and it is even better gone 1 b 10 30t front 11-42 back shimano deore brakes. works like a dream this is now my only bike.
also converted to tubeless nicely.
cant get enough of riding it.
you will stand out. every ride I have been on in the 6 months someone has asked about the bike.

I have 7 bikes, this is my favorite!, 07 September 2016

Hugely impressed with everything about this bike, phenomenal grip, I've not found anything i cant tackle yet, and its a really comfy position to be in for the more technical descents. Coupled with a pannier and handle bar bag, I've had some fun wild camps track side, before hitting the trails again in the morning.
Definitely recommend this to all of you!

Good value. Performs better than I expected., 04 July 2016
By Evilex
I bought this bike with every intent of using it where regular mountain bikes can't really function properly.
Beaches, both shale and sandy.
That sort of thing.
And it hasn't disappointed.
Managed to ride it up a gravelled sea wall. 45° straight up, with little trouble.
Grip is phenomenal.
The overall feel is more nimble than I'd anticipated, and much less vague in terms of steering.
The frame and wheel set are the stars of the show, with the tyres also being very capable. Plenty of clearance for bigger tyres/a good helping of British mud.
The headset is good, too.
The drivetrain is accurate enough, if not top-notch.
Rear brake is pretty good. Front is alarmingly poor.
Rotors are straight, and I've got them well adjusted. It just feels spongy.
I swapped the pedals out straight away for some better ones I had lying around.
Oddly, the reflectors and bell all "fell off" (Yes, I know, legal requirements mandate that they be fitted!)
The handlebars seem very wide. Doubtless, they contribute to the feel of the bike, its accuracy and stability, but I can barely fit it through my garden gate!
Saddle has taken a good 50 miles to break-in.

Upon purchase, after the PDI, I found headset to be loose, and the handlebars to be an inch or so off-centre in the stem. Fortunately, I can fix that sort of thing, but others need to be aware that ANY bike that they purchase from ANY retailer or online needs to be thoroughly looked over by a competent bike technician before they ride it in anger.

These are good bikes for the money, and can be made better with a few tweaks.
They also make a good platform for further upgrades as components wear out.
Personally, I'd go for a narrower set of bars and some hydraulic brakes first...
