Britain’s most colourful carp!

JUST weeks after we revealed possibly the World’s most stunning carp on the front cover of Angler’s Mail – a French 37 lb mirror-koi carp cross – we can reveal an English rival!

For day ticket Pendle View Fisheries in Lancashire has an almost spitting image rival but weight about 20 lb less!

The fishery have christened it the very apt Chocolate Orange – and although the lake holds the county record with a 47 lb 6 oz common carp – this fish is one of the most sought-after.

Fishery manager Katie Twine explained: ‘We do have another fish in there as well called Tango, a fully-scaled koi-mirror and both of them are really special.

‘We’ve much bigger fish in the lake including the big 47 lb common but our anglers are always chuffed if they catch either of them.

As we revealed last moth, English-run The Sanctuary holds a stunning mirror-koi cross that is around the 37-39 lb mark and was hailed as one of the most distinctive carp ever.

Dean Macey makes most of his opportunities

PRESENTER of Fishing Gurus, Dean Macey had a hectic time with commitments to the Olympics and Paralympics but has made the most of any free time.

The former decathlete has been pulled from pillar to post as Canvey Island, Essex-based Dean explained: ‘It’s been hard to find time to get out on the bank.

‘The problem of not fishing regularly is you have to work even harder for your bites and I have certainly had to do that recently.

‘I have been trying for a big ‘un from a day-only venue for years and finally achieved this with a 31 lb 4 oz mirror carp (from London’s Walthamstow). It’s a fish that goes mid 30s when carrying spawn.

‘I had this in the net and whilst waiting for the bailiff I had a chuck-out for the bream and was soon rewarded with a brace of 13 lb fish.’

Roll up for the lure Grand Slam!

A NEW lure fishing competition is bringing an exciting America style format to our waters.

The UK Lure Grand Slam will take place in mid-October at the Lake District’s Esthwaite Water. Organiser Andrew Hoyle hopes it will become an annual spectacular that grows and grows.

Andrew told the Mail: ‘It’s an exciting new competition concept to be launched within the UK, widely used across the pond in the USA.

‘The Grand Slam concept involves locating, catching, measuring, photographing and then releasing three different species using artificial lures within a fixed time period.

‘The winner being decided by the longest combined length of all three predators.’

Andrew has arranged that Saturday, October 13, will see kayak anglers compete – including experts and novices.

On the Sunday, lure fishing will be in the teams-of-two boat challenge, with experts including Mail regular Ant Glascoe Jnr., of Savage Gear.
