A UK National park looks to add youth to it’s ranks of Rangers.

A few times this week on here ive spoke about the importance of giving younger people a reason to get involved in the outdoors. We’ve spoke of shocking statistics of teens and youngsters claiming they don’t spend any time outdoors and rarely visit greenery.

Lake District National Park has come forward with a new scheme in which they will be looking for teens to become their first ‘Junior Rangers’. Reports state that Ruth Kirk who has been appointed to manage the scheme is busy putting together plans which will kickstart around  Read more

Layering in a nutshell

If you live in Britain, you’re probably used to layering. You no doubt do it automatically, like reaching for a tea after a crisis, or falling into a queue at the first sign of a crowd! Our ‘diverse’ and unpredictable weather means that layering is an important part of how we dress so we don’t get soaked when the heavens open and sweat when the sun appears.

But staying warm is more advanced than shoving on a thick wool jumper and hoping for the best if you’re more inclined to be up Snowdon that hunkered into the sofa on the average weekend.

Why can’t you wear a bin bag on the hill?

Did you know that a bin bag is waterproof? True. Not stylish, but still waterproof. It’s cheap too. We don’t sell them, but that’s okay. We don’t think you’d want one anyway. Even though water will run off it like you’re a duck, you’ll soon want a proper waterproof. Wearing a waterproof, but not breathable bin bag means you’ll probably lose 2 stone in sweat, as well as your sense of humour, and need to top up your Camelbak before you’ve even considered climbing a hill.  Our point is, for exertion, you probably need to shell out a bit more on your hardshell.
