What do you want to achieve in 2018?

You’ve probably heard of a bucket list, it’s the idea of creating a list of all the things you want to do before you ‘kick the bucket’, but it’s also a great way to keep track of your goals on a short-term basis as well. Here are a few reasons we think you should document all the things you want to achieve in 2018.

Take a few minutes at the start of the year and write down a few adventures and challenges that you want to accomplish before the end of the year. The idea is that the list serves as a permanent reminder and inspiration to keep you going to achieve those goals. Perhaps you want to visit a number of new places, try a new activity, beat your personal best, create a personal best – your list should be entirely tailored to what you want to achieve in your year of adventure, and when New Years Eve 2018 rolls around, you can look back at the things you’ve done and toast to those achievements, before aiming to beat them the year after.

Why create a list?

1. Purpose
Ideas are great, but they become a challenge you’re more likely to follow if you write them down to keep reminding yourself.

2. Focus
If you want to beat your personal best or visit a certain number of places in a limited amount of time (like a year) then you’ll focus more on how you can achieve those goals. Plotting out how many places you need to visit per month, or how many times you need to train to beat that time.

3. Inspiration
Free time is often hard to find, and when you do find it, how often do you draw a blank when thinking of something to do? A to-do list will keep you focused on the goals you have set for yourself.

4. Reward Yourself
An adventure bucket list is an ideal reward for hard work in other aspects of your life, alternatively, if your list is about challenging yourself, then why not set yourself rewards for completing certain aspects of your list. We all work better with a reward on the line, right?

5. Memories
If you’re ticking off things you want to do and places you want to visit, then you’re creating the kind of memories you want to have, and isn’t that what life is all about? You could even document your list accomplishments with photos, so you’ve got photographic evidence of what you’ve ticked off that year.

6. Discover
Find new places, meet new people, discover more about yourself than you may have known before. Trying something new, visiting somewhere new can also open up more opportunities for future lists.

7. Great way of encouraging others
If your family and friends know about your list, they may be more inclined to come along to help you complete it, which can get around those annoying excuses.

8. The more you do, the more you’ll want to do
The more you accomplish from your list, the more ideas you’ll have for future challenges, and the lists never have to end. By the time you’re finished, your ‘bucket list’ will have been all your yearly adventure lists combined.

There are plenty of reasons to get started on your new year to-do list, and don’t worry about it taking the spontanuity away from your adventures, it’ll simply focus your mind to actually going the places you wanted to go, and accomplishing the goals you set for yourself.
