GO Outdoors & Ride Sheffield help bring Lady Canning’s MTB Trail to the Outdoor City

The outdoor scene in Sheffield is buzzing right now with a real focus on becoming the nations ‘Outdoor City‘, so when Ride Sheffield were looking to crowd fund some brand new mountain bike trails just outside the city where it all began for GO Outdoors, we just had to get involved.

Ride Sheffield are an advocacy group for mountain bikers in the Sheffield region. They’re not for profit and look to improve, preserve and promote access, raising funds through like-minded people. Their plan to crowd-fund a new trail on the Lady Canning’s plantation just outside the city near Burbage in the Peak District was met with some fantastic support from the Sheffield biking community, which included a number of staff members from GO Outdoors Sheffield and our Sheffield based head quarters donating their own money.

Impassioned by the project, GO colleagues got together to pitch to the business for further funding – it was something GO Outdoors simply couldn’t turn down. Crowd funding had got the idea in motion, and with a donation of £60,000 from GO Outdoors – both trails became a reality, with money spare for ongoing upkeep.

So what is the Lady Canning’s Plantation?

Lady Canning’s has two blue graded mountain bike trails, which makes it a great place to build confidence as a mountain bike rider, or just to a great place to compete with your friends on lap times.

Blue Steel
Fast, fun and full of twist and turns – Blue trails are ideal for beginners, but the track is so well built (Thanks to Bike Track!) that it’ll bring a smile from even the most hardened mountain biker.

New for 2017 – Cooking on Gas
Roughly double the length of Blue Steel and has a shallower gradient so while more pedalling is needed, the same great build quality and blue route grading make it ideal for all abilities.

Where is Lady Canning’s?

Situated just outside of Sheffield on the edge of the Peak District near Burbage.

If you head out of Sheffield on Ringinglow Road up toward the Noroflk Arms Pub (S11 7TS for your SatNavs), turn left here onto Sheephill Road. A short distance the road veers to the left but straight on is a small gravel hill – This is the entrance to Lady Cannings.

Find the sign, and follow the trail to the top!

What do we hope to achieve from Lady Canning’s?

At the heart of this project, it’s all about local riders supporting local projects. At GO Outdoors our mission is to inspire people to get outdoors and enjoy it as much as we do,

Mike Sanderson from GO Outdoors said:

“I hope that a free to use, all abilities trail goes some way to bringing more people into the sport to have fun, these trails are a great place to improve peoples ride confidence and for experienced riders to have a great time trying to ride faster.”

He added:

“I also hope that other riders see what can be done and equally that other city’s see this and more trails are built in the UK – more people on bikes having fun!”
