I bought this as a back up for when placing a screw or gear on ice. Its a brilliant and flexible piece of kit from Black Diamond. Easily placed and retracted from ice or iced up snow it gives that extra comfort when your fiddling to place a screw with one hand on an axe and the other placing the screw/gear. I have not weighted it dynamically (ie in a fall) so do not know how it would perform as a running belay, but as a static placement when your in a pumpy situation its an extra bit of connection to the ice/snow. Light, strong and simple, with a reasonable price its a great addition to your winter kit if your on steeper hard snow/ice slopes or faces. BD are just the best for climbing gear, though I have my fair share of Grivel winter gear.
