Berghaus Arete 45 Rucksack:
Berghaus' Arete 45 is a no-fuss, versatile backpack, that's suitable for using all year round.
It weighs in at only 1040 grams, and has a simple hip belt, shoulder strap and padded-back system, so you can pack it, throw it on your back and forget about it.
The basic but comfortable design, with ergonomic shoulder straps and hip belt, gives you plenty of choice when it comes to organising your kit with easy access to what you need.
The 'Fusion 2' back system keeps the pack close to your back, with non-absorbent thermo moulded back pads.
It can be compressed easily to keep it compact and closer to your back when you're on your way back down to base with less gear, and the whole pack has a very narrow profile so it's ideal for scrambling.

A great all "round" medium bag from Berghaus. Bought for the Cumbrian Way walk and used for 5 Days with a full load easy. The only down side would be the chest strap, which is attached using plastic clips to the shoulder straps, they would just not stay on!! So in the end I had to replace it.

very good rucsack for day or weekends in the hills. simple and made of good quality materials. Cant really fault it, except the issues with the waist belt. i bought it for weekend use in the british hills and some light alpine use. When climbing the waist strap can get in the way when worn over harness but is ideal for use when scrambling and using no or very little equipment, the gear loops were ideal then, otherwise not needed. overall an excellent rucsack.

This is a really good compact medium sized rucksack that can be used for day or light multi-day use. I am really picky about rucksacks as I used to work on product development at karrimor. I wanted something minimalist but with the basic technical features of taking ice axes+poles and a hydration system. Small enough to compact when not fully loaded, but large enough to take enough clobber for overnighting or long days out with extra clothing etc this is a fantastic rucksack made with strong materials and a great design. The back is superb. Very simple, not fussy and if its set or you sweat it does not absorb it due to the fusion design. I use it for my 2 day trips to London with laptop and clothes as well as for mountaineering, its a great all rounder and is not loud in appearance of full of fancy bits of buckles etc that you do not need and get in the way /get snagged etc. The only thing I would have liked was a removable waist belt for when I am wearing it with a climbing harness, or a simple slat on the front where the folded waist belt could be secured around the front when mountaineering with it on. And another link on the front to equalize the loading when sack hauling. That would be good for mark 2 versions, but otherwise a superb and affordable rucksack that can be used for almost all outdoor situations.
