Berghaus Freeflow 20 Rucksack, 25 March 2016

The good points:
It was one of the 'better' names on display.
The price was 'acceptable'.
The size was correct for purpose.
It is well constructed from good quality material. It has served well getting kicked around a bus for 60 odd days.
The less than good points.
The hat string cannot be removed or stowed so if you do not have a hat in there the cords flop and catch everything. This will/may bring forth expletives from all affected.
The cords are also a very nice place for drivers et al to mistake as a grab handle when helping you load unload stuff in the back of vans etc.
The top pocket is a disaster. If the zip is fully opened then the entire contents fall out.
The designer knows about this as they have 'thoughtfully' integrated an 'upside-down' zip-a-dee-doo-dah stash pocket in the flap. A Counter-intuitive-ism.
As mentioned in another review, the bag has to be emptied to get anything out the bottom.
It refuses to be stood up for the purpose of rummaging so has to be held with a free hand or lent against something/one.
The 'storm' flaps over the zippers can make it difficult to find the zipper toggle things and operate the zipper as the flaps interfere with the zip mechanism.

I have taken this bag up Snowden, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis and it has been brilliant. Rain cover worked perfectly and the hard back helped give the bag some structure and kept my back vented (didn't dig in as others have said).
Nice large compartment, well made, and comfortable to use.

After a mile or two with not a lot in the pack i found it was digging in to my left hip, despite reloading and re adjusting I couldn't stop the solid corner of the back stiffener digging in.
I returned the pack to Go Outdoors and after careful attention of a couple of the staff in the Wakefield store I opted for the slightly larger Berghaus Freeflow 25, although it was in red, it had a padded waist strap which even included a small mesh pocket...handy for a miniature Gin! ..problem solved! thank you Go Outdoors, no fuss, nice customer service.
Very nice backpack.. but, 21 May 2015
It is very nice backpack with good quality.
Good quality finish
Freeflow back support
Only 1 major compartment, 1 top waterproof compartment for phones, keys and stuff, 2 side mesh.
Only can access from the top, need to unload everything to get what is at the bottom of the bag.
No hip pouch, hip belt support is very thin.
20L is not enough for my 22miles hike.

Fed up with jamming everything in for myself and wife! Found the free flow and thought give it a go.. best thing I ever did. It fits everything and the kitchen sink for the wife. Lots of seperate compartments and loads of room, very comfortable to carry and the tucked away rain cover is a bonus.
