A high performance windproof fleece for exposed ridges and crags.

WINDSTOPPER® Active ShellThe Berghaus Choktoi Fleece is a dependable classic made with WINDSTOPPER™ Technical Fleece and WINDSTOPPER™ Soft Shell fabric for total wind protection.

The combination of fleece in the body and soft shell for the shoulders and hips means you get the ideal mix of low weight and durability when carrying a rucksack for extended periods. A lofty grid-pattern backer on the inside retains body heat without greatly increasing bulk, making the Choktoi easily packable when not needed.

The four zipped pockets are all placed to be accessible when wearing a harness or rucksack, and the sleeves are shaped to give a better fit when reaching or climbing. The overall fit is close to reduce weight and bulk, allowing efficient layering and comfort for all-day mountain use. Stretch cuffs and a drawcord hem help to cut out drafts.

Robust and effective, but do try it on first, 02 March 2016
By Toot (Cornwall)
Had a Choktoi for some time now, bought for cold and windy, exposed Dartmoor travels. First, if considering purchase, do try it on - comments about the collar being a close fit are correct and it will be too tight for some larger people. Pay attention Berghaus! Second, Gore Windstopper is a good wind-blocking material but it's not the most breathable - if you're the sweaty type be aware that you may well notice this when working hard. Venting pockets do help. Reasonably fit, and not a large neck, means I don't notice these potential drawbacks. Best thing though is that the jacket works extremely well in conditions I bought it for - cold and WINDY. I have hiked in sub-zero windy conditions with just a baselayer under this jacket and been comfortable all day. The alternative would be at least baselayer and a 200-weight fleece and a windshell on top, but without careful selection of windshell then internal moisture is again a problem. Most windshells are also nowhere near as robust as the Windstopper fabric. The Choktoi will shrug off a shower but not heavy rain when you'd wear a rainshell anyway - don't get the Choktoi soaked as it takes some time to dry. The jacket material is very hardwearing, doesn't flap or sound like a crisp-packet in a breeze and doesn't bobble. Used for what it's aimed for this is a fine item - but watch that collar fit!

Disappointed, 04 November 2015
By MikeGC (Stockport)
I guess it's my own fault.
This is my second choktoi jacket. I had trouble with the zip on the first one but was able to sort it out myself.
So I bought a new one and wore it for the first time in early October on a two week birding holiday on Scilly, where I wore it every day.
Marked with lichen and blackberry from getting close to nature so I washed the jacket with Nikwax tech wash.
Sadly the pile of the jacket is abrading and so I am really disappointed with the quality of the fleece used.
Kept me warm and the wind out and the 4 pockets all worked well.

Sadly would not recommend this jacket

Beghause Choktoi Jacket XXL, 30 October 2015
By Rolotwotwo (Wales)
We had these jackets for work. Overpriced. Poor quality. Front zips broke first time the jacket was put on. Under arms far too tightly cut to wear more than a thin shirt underneath. Pocket zips also failed and pockets far too small. There is better out there for less!

Shame I can't give it 5*, 29 May 2015
By Dorftrottel (Coventry)
Love this fleece and this the second Choktoi Pro I have had. I bought the grey model which, for some reason, Berghaus have now discontinued. The only downers are the unfeasibly tight neck and the pockets aren't as deep as my previous model. That being said, the build is terrific and the jacket is extremely comfortable providing you don't asphyxiate yourself by zipping it up to the neck :-)

Pricey, but good, 26 December 2014
By tim (far, far away)
Ridiculously expensive, even with discount & sale its nearly £100.

Neck - as other reviewers also say, is TOO TIGHT to fully zip up ! how stupid is that. Generally a rather odd fit, both snug AND loose in places! which works well in practice.

Otherwise a superb top. Kept me fully dry and warm despite the rain blowing sideways, mid-winter, cold and stinging. That is a remarkable achievement for a fleece, so I'm impressed.

I only hope it performs as well in 3 years time - in which case it is worth the price tag.
